Mercedes-Benz launches first EV charging hub in North America

Mercedes-Benz HPC North America (Mercedes-Benz HPC NA) inaugurated its first Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub, located at Mercedes-Benz USA's headquarters in Sandy Springs, Georgia. With its own charging network, Mercedes-Benz is setting new standards for fast, convenient, environmentally friendly and reliable charging of electric vehicles, while at the same time helping to increase the acceptance of electric vehicles in the U.S. market. By the end of the decade, Mercedes-Benz plans to build over 2,500 charging points at a minimum of 400 stations across North America. Together with its joint venture partner MN8 Energy, a leading company in the field of renewable energies and operator of solar energy and battery storage systems in the USA, Mercedes-Benz will invest more than one billion U.S. dollars in this project. By the end of 2030, Mercedes-Benz’s own charging network is expected to comprise more than 2,000 charging hubs globally, with over 10,000 charging points in the U.S., Europe, China and other core markets.

"With our own Mercedes-Benz Charging Network, we are expanding the global charging offer for customers of all electric vehicle brands and making an important contribution to sustainable mobility. In doing so, we are setting a new standard for a premium charging experience and thus also promoting the acceptance and further spread of electric vehicles. Our charging network is accessible to all vehicle brands from day one and enables all customers to charge as quickly as possible. In North America, we are focusing specifically on regions where many electric vehicles are already on the road and areas where there is a foreseeable growing need for additional charging services."

Sandy Springs, USA: North America's First Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub

  • High-power charging speed: The ChargePoint chargers have a charging speed of up to 400 kW for the fastest possible charging experience.
  • Open to all vehicle brands: Drivers of electric vehicles of all brands can charge their vehicle and enjoy a corresponding Mercedes-Benz brand experience.
  • Charging Lounge: Customers can stay in a comfortable lounge while charging, which is equipped with comfortable seating, as well as vending machines, soft drinks and restrooms.
  • Green Charging: We enable all customers to charge with 100% green electricity from renewable energies. In addition, the solar panels on the top of the roof generate passive, clean electricity. The LED ceiling lighting ensures safety and provides protection from the weather at the same time.
  • Intelligent Indicators: LED light indicators, which are visible from a distance, show the status of the charging station: in use, free or reserved.
  • Barrier-free access: The charging hub includes one charging spot, closest to the charging lounge, designed especially for handicap accessible vehicles, as well as one uncovered, drive-through charging spot that is designed for electric vans or EVs with trailers up to 26 feet in length.

A Swiftly Expanding National Network

The Mercedes-Benz Charging Network will set a new benchmark for quality and customer experience in the charging industry.

An important part of Mercedes-Benz HPC NA's strategy is the integration of its charging stations at major retail locations. Through the recently announced collaborations with leading companies in the USA, Mercedes-Benz is enabling users of its own charging infrastructure to enjoy a seamless customer experience in which charging is convenient and fast. Meanwhile, drivers can pass the time in adjacent shopping malls or high-quality service areas. For example, Simon's shopping malls offer a wide range of restaurants, as well as shopping and entertainment venues. Buc-ee's rest stops are among the world's most popular and are strategically located along major travel corridors. By the end of 2023, Mercedes-Benz will open additional charging parks at Buc-ee's service stations in Texas, Florida, Alabama and Georgia. More will follow in 2024. The first Mercedes-Benz charging stations at Simon's shopping centers will be available to customers from the first half of 2024.

Special Benefits for Mercedes-Benz Customers

The Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs offer exclusive benefits for drivers of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles. This includes the automatic pre-reservation of charging points via navigation with "Electric Intelligence" of Mercedes-Benz EQ models. The "Plug & Charge" function for users of the Mercedes me Charge app makes the charging experience even more convenient: Once the vehicle has been plugged in, the charging process starts, ends and is paid for automatically. In addition, drivers of Mercedes-Benz EQ vehicles from the 2024 model year in the U.S. can charge at no cost at Mercedes-Benz’s own charging stations for two years. Current Mercedes-Benz EQ vehicles can be charged free of charge for six months.

A Global Commitment to Clean, Electrified Mobility

Mercedes-Benz is continuously expanding public charging offerings to customers globally. Mercedes-Benz’s collaborative initiatives to further develop EV charging around the world also include the Europe-wide fast-charging joint venture IONITY, which already comprises around 3,000 charging points, and the recently established joint venture with six other automotive OEMs to expand the North American high-power charging network. The company’s own Mercedes-Benz Charging Network consisting of branded charging hubs is the next important step in the company's electrification strategy. Globally, the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network aims to build more than 2,000 charging hubs with over 10,000 charging points by the end of the decade in the United States, Europe, China and several other markets. All of these initiatives are part of Ambition 2039, the Mercedes-Benz Group’s global commitment to create a carbon-neutral value chain by the end of the next decade.
