February 12, 2020 - Athlon Deutschland GmbH, one of the leading providers of vehicle leasing and fleet management and part of Daimler Mobility AG, is contributing to improving air quality by electrifying fleets. Athlon's concept is convincing: Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, has presented Athlon with the funding notice for the procurement of electric vehicles.
The funding totals 487,800 euros and is part of the "Clean Air 2017 - 2020" initiative, which has a total budget of 1.5 billion euros and is intended to improve air quality in cities in the short term. Athlon is using the funding to offer a total of 150 electrically driven smart fortwo/forfour models in Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen for commercial customers at reduced leasing rates in cooperation with the Mercedes-Benz North Branch.
Athlon is thus supporting local initiatives to reduce fine dust pollution. The project also involves hySOLUTIONS GmbH, the Coordination Office eMobility Metropolitan Region Hamburg and the National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW GmbH).
Electrification of fleets has great potential
Philipp Berg, Commercial Director Athlon: "From our point of view, fleet electrification has great potential for realizing a sustainable transport system. We are very pleased about the Federal Ministry's funding and think of electromobility holistically: In addition to the appropriate vehicles, we also provide the necessary charging infrastructure for our customers in cooperation with our partners".
The "Clean Air 2017 - 2020" initiative was launched by the German government at the end of 2017 with the aim of improving air quality in cities in the short term. This is to be achieved above all by electrifying urban commercial transport and promoting the construction of charging infrastructure.
